Nope. Going to try something again.
Just added an h-card to the footer of mike.rockwell.mx. I’m hoping that’s all that’s necessary to get Webmentions to include an avatar image.
There’s something interesting happening right now.
Is h-card the markup needed to get Webmentions using your name, URL, and a proper avatar?
I just added that to mike.rockwell.mx. So I guess I’ll see soon enough.
I guess I’m just going to bail on trying to get Webmentions from Twitter for *all* posts syndicated from mike.rockwell.mx.
The tools to make it all work are just too fragile and more trouble than they’re worth to maintain. Hopefully that will change at some point.
Which is to say:
Just leave the walled garden, already.
My recent exploration of Micro.blog, self-hosting, and IndieWeb protocols reminds me of the “Web 2.0” hype.
(What a silly term that was.)
It looks like IFTTT is failing when the post is longer than Twitter’s character count.
Lame. I don’t think that was happening when I was using IFTTT for this previously. I’ll need to find something else. Again. :\
Webmentions are working, but there is quite a delay in the whole process — waiting for IFTTT and then waiting for Brid.gy to poll for any replies/likes.
It’s not perfect and it feels fragile, but it does work.
I’d gladly pay a monthly fee to smooth out all the rough edges, reduce the delays, and enable Webmentions from more services.
Could someone do me a favor and like and/or reply to this on Twitter? I want to see if my Webmention setup is working properly.
